Highlander Virtual
At Howell Public Schools, we recognize that students learn through various modes of instruction. To meet the unique needs of all students, we offer two virtual programs. Virtual learning is not for everyone. Students in either virtual program must demonstrate the ability and desire to participate in the program and complete the work. Students who do not meet program expectations may be returned to an in-person setting.
Synchronous Highlander Virtual
The Howell Public Schools Virtual School, Highlander Virtual, provides a robust online learning experience while maintaining accessibility to the benefits of a comprehensive local school district. Synchronous Highlander Virtual is open to students in grades six through twelve.
Through the use of the Schoology, each student engages in remote instruction that is comparable in content and pacing to in-person instruction. Also, as a Howell Public Schools program, students remain connected to Howell teacher(s), have access to social and emotional support, sports, performing arts, and clubs.
Courses have a minimum of one required synchronous meeting per week where attendance is taken. Outside of this, teachers may offer virtual office hours or individual meetings with students. Coursework is organized into weekly folders that contain lessons, materials, and assignments. A minimum of two assignments per week, per course, is provided to students. Students work asynchronously throughout the week to complete the assignments.
Asynchronous Highlander Virtual
In addition to a synchronous virtual program, Highlander Virtual also offers an asynchronous option that provides a robust online learning experience while maintaining accessibility to the benefits of a comprehensive local school district. Asynchronous Highlander Virtual is open to students in grades BK through twelve.
Through the use of an online platform, each student engages in remote instruction that is comparable in content to in-person instruction, and allows students to self-pace. Also, as a Howell Public Schools program, students remain connected to a Howell Public Schools teacher of record, and have access to social and emotional support, sports, performing arts, and clubs.
In addition, HV students in the asynchronous program have access to in-person, optional learning experiences through a partnership with Paideia Learning.
Coursework is organized into weekly units that contain lessons, materials, and assignments. A minimum of two (2) assignments per week, per course, is provided to students. Students work asynchronously to complete the assignments, but must complete at least two (2) designated assignments each week to demonstrate two-way interactions with the Howell Public Schools teacher of record for attendance purposes.
