Dear Families,
Last month, I shared about the #OneHowell committee that is being formed to review our current strategic plan and revise it into an adaptive plan that will guide the district to ensure we continue to meet the needs of our students and families. We had nearly 90 district stakeholders apply to be part of that committee. After thoroughly reviewing each application, the district's Instruction, Improvement & Innovation (i3) Board Subcommittee used a voting process to select the 23 members of the committee. The committee is made up of parents, staff, Board of Education members, representatives from community organizations, and district administrators. I want to thank everyone who applied to be a member of the committee. Throughout this process, there will be opportunities for district stakeholders to provide their feedback to the committee. As those opportunities are scheduled, we will share them in my newsletters, in building newsletters, and on the district website.
Next Thursday, October 21, I will be hosting my first Coffee Chat of the school year. The chat will be held from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m in the Edinburg room at the district office. Coffee Chat provides an opportunity for us to give updates on the district and answer questions from families and community members. During this chat, we will be sharing information on our Portrait of a Highlander and the work that the #OneHowell committee will be doing.
I know that some of you are feeling frustrated over quarantines, and we are too. However, we must continue to try and find the balance of keeping students safe while in school and providing a high-quality education to our students. That is why the Livingston County Health Department (LCHD) has worked with the school districts in the county to develop the various quarantine options available to families. Remember to help limit the spread of COVID-19 in our schools LCHD strongly recommends that all students and staff wear a face covering while in school. If a student is showing any signs of illness, they must stay home until they are symptom-free for 24 hours or receive a negative COVID-19 test. Additionally, if a student or any member of the student's household has been tested for COVID-19, the student should not attend school while those test results are pending.
Sincerely,
Erin J. MacGregor, Ed.S.
