April 6–10 is National Assistant Principals Week. We are fortunate to have an outstanding group of assistant principals and student service advisors supporting our students, staff, and families. Each day, they work, often behind the scenes, to help create incredible learning communities. They strengthen our school culture, support school and district initiatives, ensure students have every opportunity to succeed, and help maintain safe and supportive environments for all students. Please join me in thanking our assistant principals and student service advisors for the important role they play in Highlander Nation.
This year’s Senior Survivor fundraiser is supporting The Livingston County Animal Shelter, and fundraising is in full swing. The Senior Survivors have really gotten creative this year with their fundraising efforts, which include a game night, self-care creations, a golf outing, and various athletic camps. To view all planned fundraising events, please visit https://bit.ly/3NWjrMl. Be sure to mark your calendars for Friday, April 24, for the fifth annual Senior Survivor Kick-off Carnival in the Howell High School Field House. Last month, the Board of Education approved a bid for the pre-engineered metal building (PEMB) portion of the new community center, to be constructed with funds from the Our Kids, Our Community, Our Future Bond. This marks an exciting step toward the start of construction. With the PEMB contractor now selected, our architectural firm, engineers, construction manager, and contractor will work together to finalize key details, including the foundation requirements. We anticipate breaking ground on the community center this fall. The bond also included funding for new furniture in each of our school buildings. For the remainder of this school year, several elementary teachers will pilot new classroom furniture to help determine which pieces will be selected for use across the district. The furniture was installed over Spring Break, allowing both students and staff time to evaluate the options.
Howell High School’s production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat opens next weekend. Performances will be held on Friday, April 17, and Saturday, April 18, at 7 p.m., and Sunday, April 19, at 2 p.m., giving you three chances to enjoy what is sure to be an amazing show. With its catchy tunes in a variety of musical styles, vibrant costumes, and unforgettable characters, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is fun for the whole family. Told entirely through song, the musical follows Joseph on a journey from Canaan to the household of the Egyptian noble Potiphar and ultimately to the court of the powerful Pharaoh.
