MacGregor's Message 5/12/17

Dear Parents,

Last week Howell High School hosted its annual Local Scholarship Night. Thanks to the generous support of community members and local businesses, 83 scholarships totaling over $132,000 were awarded to 55 seniors.  I would like to congratulate the seniors who earned the scholarships and thank those who made the scholarships possible. You can learn more about the different scholarships at https://goo.gl/m8b6Y9.

I am pleased to share that we have finalized the 2017-2018 school year calendar. As I have already shared, our first day of school will be Tuesday, September 5, 2017. Unlike in previous years, we will hold our elementary open houses the week before school starts in order to provide an opportunity to meet your child’s teacher and visit the classroom. The open house date for students in grades first through fifth will be on Wednesday, August 30. The open house for begindergarten and kindergarten students will be held on Thursday, August 31. The full calendar is posted on our website at https://goo.gl/cjojgM.

I’d like to remind each of you that my final Coffee Chat of the school year is next Thursday, May 18 from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Highlander Restaurant on the west side of Howell High School. This is an opportunity to hear about the amazing things happening in our schools, ask questions and learn about our plans for the future.

Several of our elementary and middle school students are preparing to take part in the Girls on the Run 5K next weekend. Students in the high school’s manufacturing and engineering program are heading to a state competition, and members of our high school Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) club will represent Michigan at a national conference in July. I have shared more on each of these stories below.
