MacGregor's Message 1/24/20
Dear Families,

Last weekend, two of our high school instrumental music students performed with the Michigan School Band and Orchestra Association (MSBOA) All-State Band at the Michigan Music Conference. Sean Gleason and Drew Lacommare were selected for this honor following a blind audition process. This is a very competitive process and less than five percent of the students who auditioned earn a spot with the band. This is a huge accomplishment for Sean and Drew and truly speaks to the strength of our instrumental music program.

The Howell High School Unified Champion Schools (UCS) basketball and pompon teams recently held their home opener against Hartland High School. UCS is a wonderful program that promotes acceptance and inclusion among all students. If you have never attended a UCS game, I would encourage you to do so. It will surely be a bright spot in your day. You can view the UCS team’s schedule at http://bit.ly/30KUCWq.

I am excited to share that after a thorough process that included first-round interviews by a well-rounded committee of district stakeholders and second-round interviews by an executive committee of district administrators, Howell High School has selected its next head football coach. Mr. Brian Lewis was chosen for the position out of a pool of 29 applicants. Coach Lewis comes to Howell from Plymouth High School in Plymouth-Canton Community Schools, where he has been the head football coach for two years. In his two seasons with Plymouth, Coach Lewis has a record of 15-6. In both seasons, his team advanced to the MHSAA postseason. To read more about Coach Lewis’s background and experience, please visit http://bit.ly/30SwmSz.

To create a more secure environment at the Freshman Campus, we will be relocating the entrance to the district’s administrative offices from the west side of the building to the north side of the building (Door C-1). This change will take place in the next few weeks. Moving the entrance will allow visitors to directly enter the administrative offices rather than coming through the Freshman Campus. Once the change has been made, there will be signs directing visitors to the new entrance.

The Livingston County Sheriff’s Office will be hosting a hands-on distracted driving course for area high school students. This class will be provided to area students and their parents free of charge. This course will allow teens to operate a vehicle under direct supervision from Sheriff’s Deputies in several distracted driving scenarios. Space is limited, so be sure to register early. The deadline to submit nominations for the district’s Teacher and Support Person of the Year awards is next week. Next month, the 13th Annual Livingston County Community Connect will be held at Parker Middle School. On Tuesday, March 17, we will welcome the class of 2033 during our annual Begindergarten and Kindergarten Registration event. You can read more about each of these items below.
