MacGregor's Message 1/10/20
Dear Families,

January is School Board Recognition Month. This is our opportunity to show our appreciation for our Board of Education members for their dedication to the students, families, and employees of Howell Public Schools. The Board of Education’s role is to establish a vision for the education program, design a structure to achieve that vision, ensure schools are accountable to the community, and strongly advocate for continuous improvement in student learning. They take their role very seriously and spend countless hours each month preparing for meetings and attending events around the district. They approach each and every decision with the best interests of the district in mind. I am so thankful for the dedication of our Board of Education. This month, if you see our board members around town or at your child’s school, please take a few moments to thank them for their unwavering support and commitment to Howell Public Schools.

On the topic of recognizing outstanding individuals, the nomination window for the 2020 Howell Public Schools Teacher of the Year and Support Person of the Year is now open. These awards honor a Howell teacher and a Howell support staff member who continually go above and beyond to ensure that all students feel respected, valued, cared for, and achieve academic success. The Teacher of the Year nomination form can be found at http://bit.ly/2t4Nrft and the Support Person of the Year nomination form can be found at http://bit.ly/2QEuJEp. Nominations must be submitted by Monday, January 27 by 4 p.m.

On Tuesday, January 21, from 1- 2 p.m. I will host my second Coffee Chat of the school year. The Coffee Chat will be held in the Edinburgh Room at the district’s administration office located at 411 N. Highlander Way. In addition to my usual district updates, representatives from our construction management company and our architectural firm will be in attendance to share an update on the projects that will occur over the summer. Of course, there will also be time for attendees to ask any questions they have about the district.

At Monday’s Board of Education meeting, we will honor one of our FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) robotics teams for winning the FIRST in Michigan FTC State Championship. On Tuesday, January 21, we will host a parent night with renowned speaker and author Brooks Gibbs, and next month the Howell High School Interact Club will hold its annual Ribbon Warriors fundraiser.
